1. Same features like ELMO 1012S-XL but shorter lens.
2. According to test and info in the instruction manual it can only meter 40 and 160 ASA in artificial light with the corresponding 25 and 100 ASA in daylight.

Very good lowlight camera with a crisp lens!

Everything on this camera has a very satisfying "click" to it, for ex. when you change speed settings, depress the trigger or fold/unfold the handle, there's nothing flimsy or rushed about it. The viewfinder is very nice and easy to focus with, and the open/close switch is one of those professional features I always love seeing on a camera. And WOW is this lens sharp. I can't fathom how this is such an under-appreciated camera when the quality of the lens rivals that of the Canon 814xl-s! What was also unexpected was how strong and quiet the motor was despite it sitting unused for 25+ years. I am positive with lubrication and a barney that this camera could be used to record sync sound; Not as quiet as the sound Nizos, but definitely in the top 5 of quiet Super8 cameras. I am really impressed by the Japanese engineering of this camera and by the Japanese owner who kept it in such good condition.

The one negative is that the image can be shaky, so purchase a frame-master pressure plate to get the most out of your camera.

Yet another example of the little brother in a series besting big brother. The smaller 1:1.2 8.5-51mm macro zoom on the 612S-XL is not only sharper than the 1:1.2 7.5-75mm macro zoom on the 1012S-XL, the lighter, shorter barrel makes the 612S perfectly balanced and a joy to handhold. By contrast the 1012 feels nose heavy and unwieldy. You can not go wrong with either model. Both will yield extremely sharp images with great color and contrast. Unlike the classic all-metal Elmos from the 60s and early 70s, the Elmo 612 & 1012 are molded plastic. The fit and finish however is nice and solid. Sold from 1978-83 the 612S & 1012S are highly reliable, modern, Super 8 Sound cameras that have a tendency to fire up, even after several decades in storage. Have them professionally cleaned and lubed and they should give you a couple of more decades of trouble-free service.
