Comments[edit]
The cheaper model of Beaulieu, but with deluxe features. No changeable C-mount lens. Solid, underrated and undervalued. Has flash plug for double system sound. Beaulieu lens.
Made in Japan, probably by Chinon (while other sources like Lossau's "Filmkameras"-book claim that the camera was made in a Japanese plant owned/operated by B&H and J. Osawa & Co.)
A German manual is available in this wiki: User Manual for Beaulieu 1008 XL (German)
Reviews[edit]
The 1008XL deserves more attention than it has gotten. Chinon's top model, it is similar to deluxe Bell and Howell sound cameras, but with Beaulieu-designed extras thrown in.
Originally sold with a set of accessories, including an intervalometer and chest pod, this camera is top ranked. Sharp Beaulieu lens-- the same as later 6XXX models-- relies upon dichroic focusing instead of the conventional rangefinder. Not only is it a large camera by itself, but the supplied lens hood is a classic-- it's immense and imposing.
Solid and hefty, this one's a keeper.
