This camera was the last and most expensive Super 8 camera marketed by Rollei and like its sister model the XL 8 the only Super 8 cameras made by Rollei themselves. Also the XL8 and XL 12 were the only Rollei sound cameras. It's a large black heavy camera nicely but not outstandingly well made. It cost about £400 in 1978 in the UK and disappeared from the market in 1979/80. It's best feature is the outstanding Schneider Kreuznach F1.4 6-70mm macro zoom lens similar to the Optivarons on the Beaulieu 4008 ZM4 and 5008 models.
